The heat will automatically shut off after 10 hours – perfect for helping you sleep soundly all night long. It uses ThermoFine technology to auto-adjust to distribute heat evenly and maintain your desired heat level while you catch up on some ZZZs. Plus, this blanket features a pre-heat setting to warm up cold sheets before bedtime. Note that some testers commented that they could feel the wires through the fabric. Reviewers also love the Sunbeam quilted fleece electric blanket too!

How do electric heated blankets work?

Similar to a heating pad, electric blankets use insulated wirings or heating elements inserted in a serpentine structure into the fabric.  When plugged, electric current passes through these wires that generate heat.  A thermostat or temperature control unit is located between the plug and the blanket.  This controls the amount of electricity that runs through the wires so that temperature can be moderated by the user.  The more modern electric blankets now use carbon fiber wires.  These carbon fiber wires are certainly less bulky and close to weightless, accounting for a more comfortable use of the electric blanket.  This is the same technology that one can find in luxury vehicles’ heated car seats.

As people are always on the lookout for products that can supply targeted heat without having to maintain or keep a furnace or a fireplace burning, or a space heater running for hours and consuming costly electricity, electric heated blankets provide warm and cozy comfort while allowing the user decreased energy consumption bills.

An electric blanket includes a heating element extending through the blanket so that, upon receiving electric current from a power source, the element heats the blanket. A regulator circuit is connected to the element. It is configured to measure the resistance of the element and to control delivery of the electric current from the power source to the element responsively to the resistance so that the element heats to a desired temperature.

6. Pure Warmth Blanket Extremely Comfortable

Another blanket that comes with 10 heat settings so that you can find that perfect heat level for you.

The blanket is available in multiple color options and 4 sizes: Twin, Full, Queen, and King.

The blanket is UL certified and comes with all the advanced features that you get to see in the high-end blankets.

10 temperature settings. Auto shut off timer. Made up of micro plush sherpa. Machine washable.

Our In-Depth Review:

Let’s start with the price of the blanket. Its not cheap, and with that we don’t mean that it is super expensive but it comes at a similar price point as some other high-end electric blankets from popular brands.

So you are not going to save any money buying this, but one thing that we can promise you with this electric blanket is a high satisfaction rate.

Talking about build and comfort quality of the blanket, its pretty nice. The microplush sherpa used on the blanket is super soft and inside it, there are thin wires that are hard to fee unless you are actually trying to find them, they are not going to cause any kind of distraction to you.

The best thing about the blanket is the 10 heat settings option. As compared to most of the electric blankets in the market, with this blanket you do not get buttons to choose the different temp settings, instead, you get a rotatory dial to do that.

The blanket heats really quickly and starts to show its capability right from the first heat level. The heat is evenly distributed throughout the blanket and combining it with the softness of the fabric, its really cozy to sit in the blanket.

For safety purposes, the electric blanket is equipped with a 10 hour shut off timer so that there is no overheating. This one of those important features that every electric blanket must come equipped with.

If you are wondering if you can wash this blanket in a machine, yes you can. There is no need to hand wash it, just unplug the remote and you are good to throw it into the washing machine.

Although the blanket can be washed in a machine, you can not dry it in a dryer. The manufacturer has clearly stated to not put it in the dryer.

Pros A lot of heat settings to choose from. Heats up in no time. Heats up well even in lower settings. You could wash it in the machine.

Cons No Cons.

Just another electric blanket that is made up of 100% polyster and comes wtih all the advanced feature that we get to see with the other brands. The heating is quick and the freedom to choose between 10 heat settings makes it a good choice for almost anyone.

4. Sunbeam Channeled Available in Multiple Colors

Made up of 100% polyester, the Sunbeam channeled is available in four different sizes, King, Queen, Full, and Twin.

We already have one Sunbeam electric blanket on this list before. This one is slightly more pricey than the other one but comes with some really great improvements.

For instance, the Sunbeam channeled comes with 10 Heat settings while the blanket mentioned above comes with only 3 temperature settings.

10 temperature settings. Auto shut off feature. It could be washed in a washing machine. Available in six different colors.

Our In-Depth Review:

Sunbeam channeled is one of those blankets about which you can never go wrong. Although we would not call it the most beautiful looking blanket, but the features packed in it are pretty solid.

One of the features that really impressed us is the 10 temperature settings.

Normally the blankets come with only 3 heat settings or 4 in some cases. With 10 temp settings in hand, the probability of you getting that sweet temp for yourself is way too high. Also on top of that, the blanket comes with the auto turn off features that make sure no overheating happens and you remain safe and comfortable.

Another thing that is good about the blanket is that even the lowest heat setting is warm enough to keep you warm during cold weather which means you save some electricity units since you do not have to switch to higher temp settings.

The blanket is available in 4 different sizes and the micro plush fabric used on all the variants is extremely soft and feels really good on the skin. Unfortunately, this blanket is not reversible so you have to stick to one side only.

The washing and drying for this blanket are going to be super easy for you since the blanket is washer and dryer safe. But make sure to remove the controller plug before going in for the wash.

The Full and the Twin size variant comes with one controller while the kind and the Queen size come with two controllers. So if you are a couple sharing the blanket the both of you can set the desired temperature for your individual side.

Talking about the heating, its even and fast. Some of the electric blankets are known to have uneven heating which makes the user feel a little weird inside it. Thankfully this is not the case with Sunbeam Channeled.

Some people have complained that the King and the Queen size blankets have too many cords since they come with two controllers. But we think if two people are using at the same time then it is very convenient since both the users can set the temperature as per their likings.

Pros It comes with a lot of temperature settings. It automatically shuts down after 10 hours. Weighs at around 5.25 pounds. The material is very soft.

Cons Wires are quite noticeable.

Surely not the cheapest electric blanket in the market, but looking at the features like 10 heat settings and the auto turn off funtionality, we think we are getting a good deal for the price that we are paying for it.

Tefici Electric Heated Blanket Throw

This blanket is a blessing. It’s gentle and easy to cuddle on the sofa. Some electric blankets feel steep inside with tough wires. With this blanket, that’s not the case. You can tell if you feel for them that there are wires, but they are not too noticeable unless you try to feel for them. The cord is long enough not to be burdensome, and you do not normally need the extension cord as long as you are near the outlet. Nor does this blanket overheat — the trip mechanism just turns the blanket off, so that you don’t have to unplug it to turn it on.

The only negative we find is the button to turn on and change the temperature settings is flush and it is easy to bump it on and off. It stays on without auto shut-off for a long time.

Quick facts:

  • 4-hour auto shut-off.
  • The 3 heat settings of 95 to 113-degree temperatures (F).
  • 10 feet cable.
  • Machine washable.

Benefits Of An Electric Blankets

It is cheaper compared to central heating

These blankets are extremely efficient, and they are designed to keep you warm at less the cost. This is because, you only need enough energy to keep you and your bed warm, rather than keeping the entire house heated.

If you get a big enough blanket to fit on your bed, or one that can fit your entire family, you can end up keeping everyone nice and warm at a very low cost.

In order to increase your savings, get one that is thick and plush, you may end up spending a little more than expected but, it is more than worth it.

It helps with pain relief, arthritis and sciatica:

Heat has natural healing power, and when you apply it to specific areas of your body, it can give you lasting relief from this pain. People who suffer from arthritis have been known to benefit greatly from a heated blanket on their beds.

When you use an electric blanket, your entire body feels very cozy, and it also helps you to relax and gives you that contented feeling. You will also not wake up stiff in the morning.

People who suffer from chronic pain conditions such as sciatica can also benefit greatly from using a heated blanket every night.

It helps you to sleep much better

There are basically 5 stages of sleep. Your body normally cycles through these stages during the night. If at any stage your sleep is disturbed by e.g. a sudden temperature change, this will affect you and you may end up being pulled from some deep sleep.

It will set your sleep schedule for you

We all have what is called a circadian rhythm in our bodies, and this is what tells us when to sleep and when to wake up.It is normally influenced by many different things such as diet, activities, light, darkness and even temperatures. If you keep changing your temperature especially at night, this may affect your circadian rhythm.

As a result, you may end up struggling to fall asleep at the right time.

Now, having a good electric blanket will ensure you are comfortable and that you maintain a consistent temperature at night, which will help you maintain a healthy sleep schedule because regardless of what the temperature is outside, your bed is always nice, warm and cozy.

It is scientifically proven to help improve your mood

Your body naturally uses plenty of energy to keep you warm on a cold day. With an electric blanket, it doesn’t need to do any work at all. The brain will receive good signals from your body that you do not need to work and as a result, you start to feel happy.

Another reason is that heat is a form of massage therapy, and any time you expose your body to pressure, it releases endorphins or what is called “the feel-good hormones,” and these help your body to feel naturally happy and relaxed.

Helps to warm your bed in advance:

When it is very cold and the temperatures are well in the negative, the last thing you need is to climb into a super cold bed. This actually feels so bad that you may end up sleepless all night long.

A good electric blanket will come with some warm settings which you can use to set it up in advance before going to bed in order to ensure that by the time you need to sleep, your bed is very warm and inviting. In most cases, you will fall asleep immediately.

Individual comfort:

In most cases whenever 2 people are in bed together, one is usually warmer than the other. An electric blanket comes with dual control that enables you to set your own comfort levels. You do not share this, and each person receives heat from their end that is different from the other person.

Dust mites and allergies reduction:

Mites naturally love humidity. The moisture in your mattress normally contains skin cells, and hair that you shed from your body. This is a perfect breeding spot for mites and other parasites that are found on mattresses.

Dust mites, on the other hand, do trigger asthmatic attacks and other allergic conditions.

According to research, electric blankets help to reduce dust mites by up to 50% through the principle of heat reduction.

Sinus relief

Sinuses are normally caused by cold temperatures. Most people are also known to experience these symptoms mostly at night while they are sleeping, whereby the sneeze a lot. A good electric blanket will help to increase the temperatures in bed and keep you very warm, and hence you will not suffer from sinuses.

Standout Features

Dual temperature control

If you’ll be sharing your electric blanket with someone else, it makes sense to look for a version that has dual temperature control. This means that you and a fellow snuggler will each have control over half the blanket so that no one is too hot or too cold. Dual temperature controls are becoming more common, but typically cost more than single temperature zone versions.

Pre-heat option

If you want your bed to be toasty warm before you get in, choose an electric blanket with a pre-heat option. This will ensure the bed has reached your desired temperature before you tuck in for the night.

Rechargeable battery

While most electric blankets must be plugged in during use, you can opt for a rechargeable battery-operated version if you want the flexibility to get cozy anywhere. This design is pricier, but if going cord-free is a priority, it's worth spending more on your new heated blanket.

The Spruce / Theresa Holland

  • Can you wash an electric blanket?

Most electric blankets on the market today are machine-washable—just make sure you detach the power cord before throwing it in the wash. Some can be dried in a dryer, though others are designed to be air-dried. Read the directions thoroughly before washing an electric blanket, and always follow the manufacturer's care recommendations.

  • Are electric blankets safe?

"Electric blankets are safe to use at home," Floyd tells The Spruce, "but an electric blanket is an electrical appliance." For this reason, he urges you to always read the manual before using one, as it will explain how to identify damage and prevent potential hazards. Additionally, Floyd advises against buying a used electric blanket. "You do not know how the blanket has been cared for, and there may be hidden damage. An old blanket may not include the latest safety features required by current product safety standards."

  • How much energy does an electric blanket use?

Generally speaking, electric blankets don't use up very much energy. They tend to consume about 100 watts on average, which would run you somewhere around $0.011 in electrical costs per hour of use. Lots of folks use heated blankets during the winter months as a way to stay warm and keep their energy bill at a minimum.

Safety Rules To Mind When Installing An Electric Heated Blanket

Some would think an electric heated blanket is a plug-and-play kind of device.  To some extent, it is.  However, you need to be mindful of the Instruction Manual and take time to read it when setting up the product.

Here are some safety practices in using electric heated blankets:

  1. Do not use on infants, very small children, persons with disabilities or anyone who cannot operate the controls.
  2. Avoid using the electric blanket in an adjustable bed, a sofa bed, reclining chairs or the like that can pinch the wires.
  3. When storing, do not loop the cord around the control panel as this may cause damage.
  4. Do not let your pets play around the heated electric blanket as their claw or teeth may damage and puncture the wires.
  5. Turn off the device when not in use.
  6. Never use an electric heated blanket on a water bed.
  7. Never iron your electric heated blanket as this may melt the wirings and insulation.
  8. Do not use pins on your heated blanket to avoid puncturing the wires.

How to Choose the Best Heated Blanket for Camping

There are a few things to think about before you rush in and buy a heated camping blanket. Here’s everything you need to know:

Automatic Shut-Off

Do you want automatic shut-off with your camping heated blanket? Auto shutoff turns your blanket off after a set time period, typically about 45 minutes. This is great if you’re using your blanket for a short period of time just to warm up.

However, if you’re planning on using your heated camping blanket on low all night long, an automatic shut-off will be very annoying. Think about what you’ll be using your blanket for and for how long.

The Blanket’s Power Source

When you’re browsing for the best electric blanket for camping online, you’ll see tons of different options. Sites like Amazon often will show you ALL electric blankets, which include blankets powered by 120-volts. Blankets you plug into a typical wall outlet will only work in an RV or a campervan plugged into shore power as they take tons of energy to heat.

Make sure you’re choosing a blanket that’s either powered by 12-volts (your cigarette outlet), or that is battery powered.

Keep in mind that if you choose a battery-powered blanket, you’ll be able to walk around more with the blanket without also hauling around a portable power station.

How Hot the Blanket Gets

Different electric camping blankets have different levels of heat. You’ll be able to check this out when you’re looking for a blanket online. How many different heating settings do you want? Some camping heated blankets have on setting while others have three.

The Length of the Power Cord

Look at the length of your camping heated blanket’s power cord before you buy. If you want to warm up people in the back seat, you’ll need a long enough power cord to reach from the cigarette lighter to the back. Same if you’re sleeping in the back of your vehicle and you want the blanket to reach.

Size of the Heated Camping Blanket

The best heated camping blankets come in a variety of sizes. Some are best for one person while others are big enough to cover three kids in the back seat. Make sure you pick the right heated camping blanket that’s best for your particular situation.

Washing Your Electric Camping Blanket

It’s important to note that most (if not all) electric camping blankets absolutely can’t go in the washing machine. All that water will damage sensitive wires and electrical components. Most manufacturers recommend hand washing or wiping the blanket down with a damp cloth to remove debris.
